Keep it brief when it comes to 'you'. Introductions are vital, especially when you're writing to someone you've never met, but make sure you don't end up hashing out all of your achievements, like that draughts tournament you won in year 6. Listing your achievements is what your CV is for maybe leave the draughts bit out of that, too. Weave the achievements you do want to include such as your degree in journalism, or current digital media job into reasons why you'd be good for the job, citing how these experiences will benefit the role. Applying for your dream job is pretty exciting stuff, but before you indulge in some Legally Blonde, sorority-style shrieking and start bashing out reasons why this job is The One, remember that the employer needs to know why hiring you will benefit them, too. They already know that the job is a great opportunity for you you have applied, after all , but what can you do for them?
